2023 PFL Challenger Series begins January 27 exclusively on Fubo Sports, FuboTV’s 24/7
sports network dedicated to featuring sports stories on and off the field
NEW YORK (January 26, 2023) - The Professional Fighters League (PFL), the fastest growing and most innovative sports league, today announced the 2023 PFL Challenger Series Light Heavyweight competitors and bouts. The PFL Challenger Series is an eight-part competition which will stream exclusively on Fubo Sports, the live, free-to-consumer TV network from FuboTV Inc. (NYSE: FUBO), the leading sports-first live TV streaming platform. The Challenger Series airs live on Friday nights in primetime, beginning January 27 through March 17, and is held on the backlot of Universal Studios Florida in Orlando, with fighters looking to earn the opportunity to compete for a world championship and $1 million winner’s purse.
In the main event of the seventh week of the 2023 PFL Challenger Series, Impa Kasanganay, an American fighting out of Charlotte, North Carolina, will match up with Osama Elseady, a native from Cairo, Egypt. Kasanganay will put his 4-1 record on the line in the contest, while Elseady, who began his career with six straight victories, will look to become the only fighter from Egypt to earn a PFL contract.
“The PFL Challenger Series features fighters from around the world looking for an opportunity to build a legacy in the SmartCage and we’re excited to introduce the competitors for the Light Heavyweight division,” said PFL President of Fighter Operations, Ray Sefo.
The co-main event of the night will see two Americans face off: Nick Kohring and Joey “The Cinderella Man” Angelo. Kohring, who fights out of Stockton, California, is currently on a four-fight winning streak with eleven first round finishes. The heavy hitter faces Angelo, who fights out of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Further action will feature another all-American matchup in Taylor “Tombstone” Johnson, and Trey “The King” Williams. Johnson, a wrestling specialist, was victorious in his first PFL Challenger Series fight. Williams, a jiu-jitsu practitioner, holds a 3-1 record while also serving as a full-time police officer in Reno, Nevada.
Monte Morrison, a Nigerian native who fights out of Bradenton, Florida, will round out the card as he takes on Roland “The Dream” Dunlap. Morrison, nicknamed “Python”, has a 10-6 record and will battle Dunlap, a wrestling specialist with an impressive 6-1 record.
PFL Challenger Series winners will be determined by a judging panel comprised of combat sports champions and celebrity guests. The PFL is at the forefront of innovation, recently reaching an agreement with Jake Paul, who will compete in, recruit for, and promote the league’s PPV Super Fight division.
